HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown in Leesburg: What to Know First

HeatShield chimney cap and crown work in Leesburg typically runs $325 to $1,200 depending on whether we’re repairing the existing crown, replacing a failed cap, or coating a crown that’s started to spall. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider - we don’t sell the product, we fix what’s around it. Most jobs are completed in one visit, and you’ll have a written price before anything starts.

This page is for Leesburg homeowners who have a HeatShield liner system or HeatShield-coated flue and are now looking at the top of the chimney: the cap, the crown, the part that takes the weather. If that’s you, call (571) 601-3174 and we’ll schedule a camera-scan inspection.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

HeatShield makes a solid product. But the cap and crown above it take abuse that no coating was designed to handle alone. Here’s what we actually see on HeatShield chimneys in Leesburg:

  • HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant with a cracked crown above it. The HeatShield coating does its job inside the flue, but when the concrete crown on top cracks and lets water behind the coating, you get freeze-thaw spalling at the bond line. We saw this on a Kings Street colonial where the crown had a hairline crack you couldn’t see from the ground. The fix: full crown repair with a proper expansion joint, then re-coat the top few inches of the HeatShield surface so the seam stays sealed.
  • HeatShield Joint Repair System exposed at the crown line. On chimneys where HeatShield was applied to seal mortar joints near the top, the crown-to-flue-tile transition is the first place water gets in. The caulk-like sealant at that transition dries out in Leesburg’s summer humidity swings and separates. We remove the old sealant, clean the bond surface, and apply fresh HeatShield-compatible sealant before installing the cap.
  • Standard multi-flue cap rusted through over a HeatShield-coated flue. This is the most common call. The liner coating inside is fine, but the cap that came with the house is six or seven years old, made of galvanized steel, and the rivets have let go. HeatShield doesn’t make caps - they’re sourced separately by whoever installed the liner. We replace with stainless steel or copper caps from Olympia Chimney or Copperfield, sized to the flue tile, not just whatever was on sale at the big-box store.
  • Improperly sized cap creating draft problems in a HeatShield-lined flue. We’ve seen Leesburg homes where a handyman installed a cap with the wrong mesh size or too little clearance above the flue tile after a HeatShield liner install. The result is sluggish draft and smoke backing into the firebox. The cap has to clear the top of the flue tile by at least 5 inches and the mesh can’t be finer than 3/4-inch. We measure, then order the right cap for the actual flue dimensions.
  • HeatShield coating abrading where the cap base-clamp makes contact. If a previous cap was clamped too tightly around the flue tile, the clamp bites into the HeatShield coating and wears a groove. Water finds that groove, works down the side of the tile, and you get a slow leak behind the liner. We use a padded or standoff cap base and apply a HeatShield-compatible patch at the wear point before bedding the new cap.

The camera doesn’t lie, and neither does the price I write down before I start. Corrine Halstead has been showing Leesburg customers their own footage for years now - you’ll see what we see before you spend a dollar.

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process
  1. 1
Call and talk to a person. You tell us what you’re seeing - water in the firebox, rust staining on the crown, a cap that’s leaning, or just age. We book a window, not a four-hour block.
  2. 2
Camera inspection down the flue. We run the camera before anyone touches a tool. You see the HeatShield coating’s condition, the crown from the inside, any gaps, any water tracks. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard: photo record on every job.
  3. 3
Written scope and price. We put on paper exactly what we found, what we’ll do, what parts we’ll use - OEM HeatShield material or a named aftermarket equivalent - and what it costs. Nothing starts until you approve that number.
  4. 4
Repair or replace. Crown work: we remove loose material, build a proper bond-break, pour and tool the new crown with a drip edge. Cap work: remove the old cap, clean the flue tile rim, install the new cap with stainless hardware, seal the clamp line.
  5. 5
Document and test. We run the camera again, confirm the flue is clean, confirm draft with a smoke test where appropriate, and show you the before-and-after photos.
  6. 6
You keep the record. Written warranty, photos, and a written summary of what was done. If it’s not right within 365 days, we come back and make it right.

Job Typical Range in Leesburg
Cap replacement, single-flue stainless steel $325 - $525
Cap replacement, multi-flue or custom sizing $450 - $800

Why Leesburg Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Leesburg for HeatShield Work

Because you can see what you’re paying for. Every HeatShield cap and crown job starts with a camera scan and ends with a photo record. The 365-Day Done Right Promise means if our crown repair cracks at the bond line next spring, we’re back on the roof at no charge. The tech who shows up is background-checked, uniformed, and has the license number on the truck - and we text you when we’re five minutes out.

We’re not married to one brand. If a HeatShield-specific patching material is the right call for your crown, we use it. If a DuraFlex or Gelco product does the job better for less, we’ll say so and price it accordingly. You get the honest recommendation, not a sales pitch.
